Ameglia features a coastal landscape with two distinct faces: to the east are long sandy beaches, while to the west cliffs drop steeply into the sea. This range of landscapes is complemented by Roman and medieval traces. Historic sites with their own character

The Pieve dei Santi Vincenzo e Pasquale stands in the historic center. It dates from the 15th century and was built on top of an older structure. The Oratorio di N. S. Assunta dates approximately from the 18th century and contains a wooden choir. At the Pieve, the 15th-century building and the older structure beneath it meet.

The historical sites are located in different parts of the area: the Pieve stands in the historic center, the necropolis below the medieval village, the villa on the slope of Caprione on the right bank of the Magra, and the convent on the scenic road toward Montemarcello.

Below Ameglia’s medieval village lies the Necropoli di Cafaggio, a monumental burial site of an important confederation of the Liguri Apuani. Its enclosures consist of dry-stone masonry. The site is partially accessible, has some architectural barriers and is visible from the outside. Guided tours take place during Settimana della Cultura and other events. When visiting, a distinction must be made between visibility from outside and the areas that can be accessed.

On the slope of Caprione, on the right bank of the Magra where the river flows into the sea, the Villa romana di Bocca di Magra preserves the remains of a maritime villa. The best-preserved part is a thermal complex with a recognizable caldarium and its associated heating system. There is an accessible entrance and parking area for people with disabilities. The preserved bathing area thus combines its location at the river mouth with specific architectural details.

The Convento dei Carmelitani on the scenic road toward Montemarcello was founded in the 12th century. Its chapel contains a Romanesque crucifix known as the Cristo Nero. The Torre del castello di Ameglia retains its original features and has a cylindrical floor plan.

For active days, the hiking trail from the Monastero di Santa Croce in Ameglia to Punta Bianca in Ameglia is one of the park’s routes. The two endpoints give the trail a clear direction for planning a day of hiking. In this way, the hiking section complements the coastal landscape and historic sites with outdoor activity.
