Torrazza combines ecclesiastical architectural history with Palazzo Spinola and the area's railway and trail connections. Cultural points of interest include the Oratorio S. Bernardo, the Church of Nostra Signora del Rosario e San Bernardo and a 17th-century building. The Ferrovia Genova-Casella and the Via del Sale complement these buildings with two different local connections. Thus, in Torrazza, sacred history, Palazzo architecture, the transport of goods and a regional railway route come together.

Torrazza Station is located at kilometre 10.700 of the Ferrovia Genova-Casella. It is accessible from the road; however, access to the railway line there is exclusively on foot. Immediately after the turnoff to Torrazza Station of the Ferrovia Genova-Casella, the Via del Sale begins. It leads to the square in front of the Church of San Bernardo at an altitude of 330 m. The route therefore begins at the station turnoff and ends at the church square; here, the station, the Via and the church form a clearly traceable sequence of local points of reference. For planning purposes, the route connects the railway kilometre with the turnoff to the station and the church square at an altitude of 330 m.

Historic buildings in Torrazza

The Oratorio S. Bernardo and the attached rectory at Piazza Oratorio, Loc. Torrazza, are protected historic monuments. The Church of Nostra Signora del Rosario e San Bernardo is located on Via San Bernardo in the Torrazza district. The present-day church was built at the beginning of the 20th century; by an archiepiscopal decree dated 1 September 1955, it was elevated to the status of a parish church, and in 1960 it was granted the title of Prevostura. In terms of their dates, the Palazzo and the present-day church in Torrazza represent different building phases: the Palazzo dates from the 17th century, while the church dates from the beginning of the 20th century.

Palazzo Spinola was built in the 17th century. It belonged to a Genoese noble family of the same name and served as a control point for the transport of goods with the Valle Scrivia. The building therefore combines a specific construction period with its function in regional trade. The Valle Scrivia also appears in the railway context of the Ferrovia Genova-Casella and in the history of the Palazzo.

Torrazza in the regional railway and valley area

In the wider regional surroundings of Torrazza, the narrow-gauge Ferrovia Genova-Casella connects Genoa with the Valle Scrivia and runs through the valleys of Bisagno, Polcevera and Scrivia. The railway connection thus extends beyond Torrazza to Genoa and the Valle Scrivia; at the same time, the line passes through several valley areas. In Torrazza, this regional route is complemented by the station at kilometre 10.700 and the turnoff to the Via del Sale as specific local points of reference.
