Nepi between archaeology and a day of hiking

The Museo civico archeologico di Nepi illustrates the historical development of the town and its surrounding area from prehistory to the Renaissance through archaeological finds. It is associated with the important Catalan Borgia family; its present form is the result of several layers of construction that testify to the town’s historical continuity. The Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta stands on the site of an ancient Roman forum and was created through several reconstructions. Among its most valuable elements are the crypt and the main altar with its decorations.

Palio and the Via Amerina

Local tradition also adds its own distinctive note. The 30th edition of the Palio dei Borgia is associated with the year 2026. The Palio includes the Giochi Popolari delle Quattro Contrade, in which the four contrade compete against one another in traditional folk games. The event thus combines the Borgia theme with a competition between the four contrade.

For active days, the fourth stage of the Via Amerina from Nepi to Campagnano di Roma is a clearly described option. The route is 15.2 km long and has a walking time of 5 hours and 30 minutes.
