Scauri has many sides: in the Gianola e Monte di Scauri Regional Park, natural landscapes meet historic remains; along the coast lies the Spiaggia dei Sassolini cove; and the Festa del Mare brings a local tradition to life. This gives you several ways to shape your holiday, from nature and the sea to Roman history.

Nature park, Mediterranean scrub and coastal views

The Gianola e Monte di Scauri Regional Park covers 292 hectares of land and 30 hectares of sea. Its features include natural landscapes, historic remains and hiking trails. Mediterranean scrub dominates the vegetation, including cork oaks, holm oaks, downy oaks and Aleppo pines. The plant life gives the park its distinctive character, complementing its archaeological heritage with a distinctly scenic side.

The Spiaggia dei Sassolini offers a different coastal scene: it is a protected natural cove between Monte d’Oro and Monte di Scauri. There is also a small grotto at the cove, known as the “grotta azzurra” (blue grotto). From the summit of Torre di Scauri, you can see the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Aurunci Mountains. The cove, grotto and viewpoint each offer a different perspective, so the experience of nature and the coastal landscape is not limited to a single feature.

The mild climate makes the Regional Park a good place to visit in any season. However, check access conditions for your travel dates. The park is free to enter; natural barriers may make some areas inaccessible to visitors with mobility impairments. If you need to use specific paths or areas, check their accessibility before your visit.

Roman traces in the park and theatre

The Regional Park is home to a Roman seaside villa dating to 50 BC. It is a tangible historical landmark in a landscape also defined by Mediterranean scrub and the sea. Nature and cultural history therefore sit side by side in the park, without one needing to overshadow the other.

In Minturnae, the Antiquarium is located in the Roman Theatre. Its Galleria delle Statue displays sculptures of importance to the city’s history, including statues of Augustus and Livia. Those interested in Roman history will find a different perspective here than among the remains of the seaside villa: the Antiquarium focuses on sculptures and their significance to the city’s history.

Activities and local traditions

Minturno’s cycling and hiking options include scenic bike rides along the Scauri seafront. Near Torre di Scauri, a 600 m-long trail with an elevation gain of 50 m begins on Via della Cartiera. This distance gives you a practical reference for planning; trail conditions can change, so it is a good idea to check before setting out.

The Festa del Mare “Arrivederci a Scauri” is also part of the town’s character: this traditional festival takes place every year. The 61st edition was held in 2024, followed by the 62nd in 2025. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for your chosen travel year; no specific dates for 2026 are provided here.

Choose a holiday apartment to suit your plans

When choosing a holiday apartment in Scauri, it is worth first deciding which aspects of your stay matter most. If you want your trip to focus mainly on the park and coast, your daily plans may differ from those of a trip focused on Roman history or cycling and hiking. Families can weigh up everyone’s interests together and plan their stay accordingly, without expecting every activity to matter equally to everyone.

You can also plan your journey in practical terms: if travelling by bus to Minturno Scauri, you will need to change in Latina. Bus routes and timetables can change, so check your connection before departure. This lets you align your search for a holiday apartment and your plans for each day with the experiences that interest you most in Scauri.
