Cori offers you a varied gateway to history, culture, trails and regional flavors. The historic festival Carosello Storico dei Rioni di Cori has been held since 1937 in honor of the Madonna del Soccorso and the patron saint Sant’Oliva. It includes a procession with flag bearers and performers representing the individual districts, as well as the horse-riding competition “Corsa all’Anello”. In this contest, riders from the three districts attempt to pierce a 33 mm ring at a gallop with their dagger. For a trip with varied interests, Cori therefore offers a particularly vivid cultural focus.

Culture between the museum, frescoes and monastery

The Museo della Città e del Territorio di Cori is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This allows you to incorporate your museum visit into your daily itinerary in a targeted way. The Oratorio della Santissima Annunziata preserves frescoes depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments. The Oratorio della SS. Annunziata is also a national monument and is considered an important example of 15th-century painting.

Another noteworthy place is the cloister of a monastery in Cori. Its upper portico has 27 different marble capitals and is considered a masterpiece of 15th-century sculpture. The details are suitable for anyone who wants to discover historic architecture not only through large structures, but also through artistic details.

Ancient evidence on the Acropolis and at the Forum

The Temple of Hercules stands on the ancient Acropolis of Cori and has nearly intact columns. It was built between 89 and 80 BC. The remains of the Temple of the Dioscuri comprise two Corinthian columns on a viewing terrace in the ancient Forum of Cori. Those interested in ancient architectural history can include these sites as different focal points in their travel plans, without limiting the town’s cultural diversity to a single monument.

Trails, wine and practical orientation

Cori lies along two stages of the Via Francigena del Sud. The route covers more than 50 km and leads through forests with views over the plain, through settlements and along paths in the surrounding area. You can therefore get to know Cori through its buildings as well as through its landscape and sections of the route. Along the Strada del Vino, dell’olio e dei sapori, which runs through the area, the wineries Marco Carpineti, Cincinnato and Pietrapinta also offer sophisticated oenogastronomic experiences.

For local orientation, a local bus connects Cori Monte with Cori Valle. A shuttle also runs from Cori to Cisterna, Giulianello and Rocca Massima. When looking for a holiday apartment in Cori, you can therefore first consider whether cultural sightseeing, the Via Francigena del Sud, or wine and regional cuisine should take up the most space in your trip. This allows you to choose accommodation that suits your preferred travel rhythm, without basing the decision on unverified amenities.
