Nogaredo di Corno can be explored through several distinct periods: the Church of San Giorgio Martire tells the story of its early history, later construction phases and furnishings. There is also the Festa del Dono, a donors’ monument in Piazza IV Novembre and named sections of cycling routes. For your travel plans, you can choose between church and art history, a local celebration and cycling as your main interests.

San Giorgio Martire: a building history in several stages

The earliest evidence of the existence of the Church of San Giorgio Martire dates from the 14th century. Its present form took shape in the first decades of the 16th century. On 25 April 1525, the church was consecrated by Daniele de Rubeis, Bishop of Caorle. These dates mark different stages: early evidence of the church, the creation of its present form and, finally, its consecration. On 5 May 1678, Patriarch Giovanni Delfino approved an extension to the church. The bell tower was built in 1690 by Don Giacomo Bertolissi. After earthquake damage, San Giorgio Martire was restored and strengthened to withstand earthquakes.

Organ and altarpieces

The church’s furnishings also invite you to distinguish between different centuries. The church contains an organ made by Pietro Nacchini in 1756. In the left aisle is an altarpiece of San Giorgio Martire, created around 1557 by the Udine painter Giacomo Secante. In the right aisle are three small 18th-century altarpieces from the Church of Santa Margherita. The works differ in date, number and location within the church. For those interested in art history, this offers a close look at individual furnishings, rather than just the building’s history.

Traces of early settlement

Another historical connection leads to the ancient Church of Santa Margherita: traces of Roman settlements were found near its ruins on the left bank of the Corno. This adds a different historical perspective to the medieval and later milestones of San Giorgio Martire. Anyone interested in the long history of a place can distinguish between the two subjects: the documented development of a church on the one hand, and archaeological traces near the ruins of Santa Margherita on the other.

The Festa del Dono and the donors’ monument

The Festa del Dono is an annual celebration in Nogaredo di Corno. Check the dates in advance for your travel period. A report from 2025 records that a donors’ monument was inaugurated in Piazza IV Novembre on the same day as part of the Festa del Dono. It was planned and built by the AFDS Coseano section. This subject therefore brings the celebration and a specific monument in the same square into focus; the celebration can also serve as a point of reference when planning your trip.

Cycling route and directions

The A8 cycling route, “Nobili dimore dell’alta pianura,” goes as far as the bell tower by San Giorgio Martire, then continues along Via dei Fiori towards Flaibano. The bell tower is therefore a named point on this section of the route. Another direction uses Piazza IV Novembre as its reference point: from there, the route goes left along Via del Ponte towards Silvella. The two directions differ in their respective starting or reference points and their stated destinations. If you are planning a cycling trip, you can use these place and street names when planning your own route.
