Perticara combines mountain landscapes, unusual outdoor experiences and a history closely connected to mining. Those planning a trip involving activity, nature and cultural discoveries will find various ways to experience this place on Monte Aquilone. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore particularly worth considering what you would like to focus on during your days: mountain trails, viewpoints, adventures in the trees or insights into the history of the sulphur mine.

Between Monte Aquilone and the Valmarecchia

Perticara has marked trails across the Perticara, Pincio and Aquilone mountains. They can be explored on foot or by mountain bike and offer different options for active days. An important landmark is CAI Trail 096. It leads to the summit of Monte Aquilone, from where there are expansive views across a large part of the Valmarecchia.

The area also offers specific opportunities for other outdoor activities. The Skypark in Perticara provides outdoor adventures and sporting activities, with courses in tall, old trees on Monte Aquilone. There is also a launch site for hang-gliding and opportunities for climbing on natural rock faces. These activities appeal to different ways of spending your time: You can spend the day on marked trails, seek an active change of perspective at height or explore the natural rock formations.

Luoghi Minimi and the history of mining

The installation Luoghi Minimi forms a special connection between landscape and art. It is based on an idea by Tonino Guerra and is located in the forest on the eastern slope of Monte Aquilone near Perticara. From Sky Parc, the installation can be reached via a footpath involving a descent of around 20 minutes. This specific route connection can be taken into account when planning your day if you would like to combine a nature experience with a cultural stop.

The history of mining is brought to life in the Church of Santa Barbara in Miniera. It was built by the miners themselves as a votive offering to protect the workers. In addition, the Museo Minerario in Perticara includes an educational mine with a scenographically reconstructed tunnel. It illustrates the sequence of mining techniques in a realistic underground setting. This makes it possible to explore the history of the area not only through individual buildings, but also through the work carried out underground as depicted there.

Tradition and planning excursions

The traditional Ferragosto celebrations in Perticara combine the Feast of the Assumption with remembrance of the miners who lost their lives while working in Europe’s largest sulphur mine. This connection gives the celebrations local historical significance. For a trip with a cultural focus, Perticara can also be included in a larger excursion route: The town is a stop on the 130-kilometre motorbike route “Alla scoperta del formaggio di fossa”.

When looking for accommodation, you can therefore use your preferred travel rhythm as a guide. A holiday apartment or holiday home in Perticara suits an itinerary combining mountain trails, Monte Aquilone, mining history and special outdoor activities. Those who prefer to explore individual themes in greater depth can select the trails, the Museo Minerario, Luoghi Minimi or the historical connections as specific components of their day trips.
