Gaida combines local history, trails through inhabited landscapes and the culinary tradition of balsamic vinegar. A notable starting point is Parco di Gaida at the junction of Via Emilia and Via Casel di Ferro. The park covers 5,900 m² and has a children’s play area. If you are travelling with children, you can combine a stay here with visits to historic sites and a cycling tour, without limiting the trip to just one type of experience.

Discover Historic Gaida

The historic town centre of Gaida developed along the Via Emilia and is one of the town’s historic and architectural highlights. These features also include the ancient Magnani estate. The original Church of San Giuliano Martire in Gaida is already mentioned in a document from 1230. This gives the town points of interest for anyone who wants to discover not only landscapes while travelling, but also established townscapes and individual historic buildings.

Gaida’s history also includes a solemn memorial site. On 9 February 1945, 21 young people in Cadè and Gaida became victims of Nazi-Fascist reprisals. A recurring memorial service for the martyrs of Gaida and Cadè takes place in February. Visitors interested in commemorative culture can take this historical context into account when planning their trip.

Park, Circular Trail and Cycling Connections

The Canaletto dei Canonici circular trail runs through the inhabited areas of Gaida and Cadè. It provides a specific point of reference for visitors who want to include exercise in their days while also exploring places beyond a purely sightseeing perspective. Gaida is also connected to Calerno di Sant'Ilario and Cadè by a cycle path along the Via Emilia. Such connections can play a role when choosing accommodation if you would prefer to structure your trip around cycling or ideas for walks and excursions. The connection alone says nothing about travel times, difficulty or other characteristics of the routes.

Balsamic Vinegar from Reggio Emilia

Tenuta La Rampata offers a special culinary attraction. It is home to an acetaia where traditional balsamic vinegar from Reggio Emilia with a protected designation of origin (DOP) is produced. At Medici Ermete & Figli at Via Newton 13/a, visits and tastings are possible by prior reservation. If you would like to combine culture and regional specialities, you can plan this visit as a separate activity. Be sure to take the required reservation into account in advance.

Gaida as a Base for Your Trip

Gaida is served by local public transport line 2 on the Rubiera–S.Ilario route. The line runs infrequently on this section, which is important to consider when planning your day. The cycle path along the Via Emilia complements this connection between Gaida, Calerno di Sant'Ilario and Cadè. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, first consider what you want your trip to focus on: historic townscapes, a memorial service in February, trails and cycling connections, or a culinary visit with a tasting.
