Osteria del Boccaccio, the Terrestra farm and historic buildings are located in Sant’Agata sul Santerno. Villa Patronale (San Vitale) is located at Via San Vitale 53. Another notable story is associated with Osteria del Boccaccio: in the building it occupies today, Vittorio De Sica filmed several scenes for the 1961 film “Boccaccio 70,” starring Sophia Loren. The building is a restored old stable. The osteria is at Via S. Vitale 14 in Sant’Agata sul Santerno. Check the address before visiting.

Agriculture and event venues

At Terrestra, visitors can take an active part in various activities at a farm located at Via San Vitale 13 in Sant’Agata sul Santerno. Terrestra farms Podere Casetta, an organically certified estate of just under seven hectares. A description from December 2020 mentions mainly fruit: various varieties of plums, pears, persimmons, medlars and apricots, as well as Merlot and Trebbiano grapes. The farm’s profile combines fruit growing and grape cultivation. If you are interested in specific seasonal produce, check its current availability.

Parco del Boccaccio offers a different focus. The large green space is equipped for weddings, birthdays, company parties, banquets and private celebrations. This offers agricultural activities and an event venue to suit different travel interests.

Architectural heritage in Sant’Agata sul Santerno

The Chiesa Arcipretale di Sant’Agata was rebuilt in 1881 in the neoclassical style, based on a design by the architect Pritelli, on the foundations of a Renaissance building dating from 1494. The church thus brings together two clearly dated phases: its Renaissance predecessor and its 19th-century neoclassical redesign. The church also preserves works by D. Tasselli of Lugo and Orfeo Orfei of Massa Lombarda.

The Torre Civica of Sant’Agata sul Santerno was built on the ancient gateway to the medieval castle. Since 1487, its bell has been known as “la campana della ragione.” The Santerno River is also part of the history of the municipal area: since pre-Roman times, it was an important transport route between Spina and Etruria. The river thus represents a history of transport that began long before the medieval castle.

Getting around and the cycle path

Sant’Agata sul Santerno lies at the junction of the SP253R San Vitale and SP13 Bastia provincial roads. In 2024, restoration work was planned for the cycle path along the SP253R San Vitale following the floods of May 2023. If you plan to use the cycle path, check its current condition in advance.

When looking for a holiday apartment in San Vitale, you can use your travel interests as a starting point: film history and architectural heritage, active farming or an event each offer a different focus.
