Discover Vigolzone: Wine, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Vigolzone
Vigolzone combines wine-growing landscapes, historic sites, regional cuisine and trails through varied natural surroundings. Those looking for a holiday apartment as a base for different kinds of days away will find inspiration here for cultural activities, exercise and culinary discoveries. Depending on your interests, you can include visits to historic town centres, cycling and walking trails, or regional specialities in your itinerary.
Culture between the Castle, Town Centre and Vineyards
A particular cultural highlight is the Museo della Vite e del Vino Fernando Pizzamiglio. The interactive tour begins outside Vigolzone and leads through the winery to the library. There, around 1,100 volumes on wine and vine-growing culture, as well as documents dating from the 14th to the 20th century, are available. The museum thus connects the history of wine with direct insights into books and historical documents.
Grazzano Visconti also has a distinctive character of its own. The town centre was designed around the castle in a medieval style and can be visited free of charge every day. The craft tradition includes working with wrought iron, ceramics and wood. The park of Castello di Grazzano Visconti covers 12 hectares. In Vigolzone itself stands the Rocca Anguissola, also known as Castello di Vigolzone. Its rectangular layout is defined by two towers at opposite corners. The Castello remains privately owned; it can be viewed from the gate, and its towers can be seen from the piazza in front.
Cycling and Walking Trails through the Nure Landscapes
For active days away, Le Antiche Vie comprises seven combined cycling and walking trails in the municipality of Vigolzone. Percorso 1 – Verde is suitable for the whole family and can be completed on foot or by mountain bike without any special preparation. This makes it a suitable route for a shared outing when different age groups are travelling together.
Percorso 4 – Rosso begins in Grazzano Visconti, climbs the hill of Vigolzone and returns via the ancient road of the mills to the medieval borgo. Percorso 5 – Arancio also follows the ancient road of the mills and the riverbed of the Nure. Along the way, the trail passes through a protected floodplain landscape that provides a habitat for many wild animals. The nature trails in Val Nure-Val Chero run through Vigolzone and connect the town with Carpaneto, San Giorgio Piacentino, Podenzano and Ponte dell’Olio. This allows you to choose between a family-friendly loop, a route with an ascent and a landscape with a particular focus on nature.
Wine, Tortelli and Local Traditions
With its vineyard-covered hills and landscapes shaped by wineries, Vigolzone forms part of the Strada dei vini e dei sapori dei colli piacentini. Tortelli con la coda is also part of the region’s identity. This speciality has been a De.Co. product of the municipality of Vigolzone since 2006. The Festa del tortello De.Co. takes place every year at the end of July. Another historic highlight is the 17th-century oratory, which opens on special occasions.
When choosing accommodation, you can therefore orient yourself according to your preferred pace of travel: a trip focused on trails and landscapes calls for different priorities than days spent among town centres, castle architecture, and wine and food culture. Those who want to discover regional cuisine and local traditions can plan their visit around the Festa del tortello De.Co.; for culture-focused days, the museum, Grazzano Visconti and the Rocca Anguissola are good options.
