Casalfiumanese sits on a hill in the landscape typical of the Santerno Valley. Apricot and other fruit trees, vineyards, and striking badlands dating back thousands of years shape the character of the place. This combination brings together cultivated countryside and a distinctive landform. Fruit growing, vineyards and badlands give the surroundings different features and make them appealing to travellers who like to include nature and landscape in their holiday plans.

Seasons and Nature

In spring, Casalfiumanese offers blossoming fruit trees and lush greenery; in autumn, mild temperatures are ideal for hiking and outdoor activities. The two seasons offer different highlights: spring is all about the blossoms, while autumn brings the chance to enjoy the mild temperatures outdoors. If you are planning your stay around one of these experiences, choose your travel dates accordingly. When looking for a holiday apartment, you could first consider whether your priority is the fruit blossom or autumn outdoor activities.

Hiking and Getting Around

The Sentiero Luca Ghini starts in the park at Villa Manusardi, opposite Casalfiumanese Town Hall. Parking is available there. This named starting point makes it easier to locate a route and add it to your day’s plans. Its position opposite the town hall also provides a clear reference point for finding your way around. Village events are also held in Parco Manusardi. The park is therefore associated both with the start of the trail and with local events.

Architectural History and Sacred Art

The Chiesa della Visitazione della Beata Vergine di Riviera is the oldest Marian shrine in the Santerno Valley built entirely of stone. Frescoes adorn the church’s vaulted ceilings. In the apse basin, a fresco depicts the Madonna’s visit to Elisabetta; it is attributed to Bernardino da Tossignano. The work is in need of restoration. Its construction, vaulted paintings and specific subject matter offer different aspects of cultural history. For travellers interested in sacred art, the site brings together an architectural feature and a specific religious depiction.

Fiagnano tells its story in a different way. Today, only the 13-metre-high bell tower remains of the former parish church. The fortified village is considered the birthplace of Lamberto Scannabecchi, who was pope from 1124 to 1130 under the name Honorius II. A surviving architectural feature and a biography with specific dates thus stand side by side: the tower marks what remains of the former church, while the dates of his papacy place a specific historical figure in time.

Events

Village events are held in Parco Manusardi. During the Sagra del Raviolo, the RavioloTrail takes place both as a competition and as a leisurely walk. The event therefore offers two different formats. If you are planning to travel specifically for the Sagra del Raviolo, check the event date before making your plans. This lets you arrange your stay around the event rather than choosing your travel dates independently of it.
