Pannarano: Nature, Trails and History
Accommodation in Pannarano
Pannarano combines a tangible connection with nature, hiking options and traces of history. The Oasi di Montagna di Sopra is located in Pannarano, within the Parco Regionale del Partenio and the Zona Speciale di Conservazione ZSC IT8040006. There are also two E-marked hiking trails of different lengths, with different starting and finishing points. The history stretches from Samnite tombs dating to the 4th century BC to Pannarano Castle, built around 1300. This lets you tailor your trip to different interests: natural landscapes, hiking or cultural history.
A natural landscape between 800 and 1,598 metres
The Oasi di Montagna di Sopra extends from 800 metres above sea level to 1,598 metres at the Monti d’Avella. These two elevations give the natural landscape a clear frame of reference. Together with its location in the regional park and within the ZSC protected area, the oasis is a specific destination for anyone interested in nature and landscapes when planning a trip.
The locality of Acqua delle Vene is also within Pannarano, inside the WWF oasis. Excursions can be organised there. If you would like to include this option in your plans, check the current arrangements before your visit. The nature theme is not limited to elevations: the oasis and the locality of Acqua delle Vene offer different ways to explore the landscape around Pannarano.
Two hiking trails, different distances
An E-marked hiking trail runs for ten kilometres from Pannarano to Acquafredda. Along the way are Acqua delle Vene, Tuppo dei Fogli and Quattro Vie. The second E-marked trail is 4.5 kilometres long and starts at S. Maria a Cannavile in Pannarano. It passes Acqua di Carlangiona, also known as Acqua di Carluccio, and ends at Fontana Mafariello.
You can compare the routes by their stated lengths and starting and finishing points: one is ten kilometres long, the other 4.5 kilometres, and the waypoints listed for each are also different. The distances can help you match your preferred route length to your plans for the day. At the same time, keep their different start and end points in mind. Check the route locally before setting out.
Trekking Partenio, marked with internationally used CAI symbols, offers another point of reference for hiking. This information adds a regional context to the two routes described in detail, without changing their waypoints or lengths.
Traces from several periods
History offers another way to explore Pannarano. Samnite tombs found in the area attest to human settlement as early as the 4th century BC. Other archaeological finds from the surrounding area date to Roman times. Pannarano Castle adds a later historical landmark: it was built around 1300 by Guglielmo Della Leonessa.
These traces highlight different periods: early settlement, Roman finds and a medieval building. This adds a cultural perspective to your trip planning alongside nature and hiking. You can decide which of these interests you would like to explore during your stay, rather than limiting your visit to just one kind of experience.
Plan your stay around your interests
When looking for a holiday apartment in Pannarano, your preferred focus can help guide your choice: would you like to explore the WWF oasis and its elevations, include one of the named hiking routes in your plans, or take a closer look at traces of history? These themes give your holiday plans a clear direction without assuming a connection between the individual waypoints. Choose your stay based on the landscape, hiking or cultural themes that matter most to you.
