Rocchetta Sant'Antonio combines sacred buildings, Castello D'Aquino, religious traditions and a tourist railway line. Specific points of interest include the Chiesa Madre dell’Assunzione della Beata Vergine Maria, Maddalena Church, the Monastero dell'Annunziata, Serralonga Hill, the Santuario della Madonna del Pozzo, La Via del Padre and the Avellino–Rocchetta Sant'Antonio railway line.

Churches, art and monastic traces

The Chiesa Madre dell’Assunzione della Beata Vergine Maria was built between 1754 and 1768; 1768 was the year it was consecrated. It was designed by Giovanni Mancarelli from Barletta. Its interior contains, among other works, a panel depicting the Madonna del Cardellino and the Ecce Homo by Nicola Brudaglio.

Maddalena Church is located in the town centre. It is an 18th-century church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and bears the name Chiesa della Maddalena. Inside, it preserves an 18th-century canvas. The Monastero dell'Annunziata is an old monastery dedicated to Santa Maria in Giuncarico, which was associated with the Benedictine abbots of Cava dei Tirreni.

Those interested in culture will find sacred interiors, individual works of art and monastic connections here. The churches represent their construction periods, dedications and artworks, while the Monastero dell'Annunziata brings its own religious history.

Castello D'Aquino and architectural details

Castello D'Aquino was built in 1507 by Ladislao D'Aquino. Its well-preserved limestone structure is probably attributable to the architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini. The building also features a pointed-arch battlement tower representing the bow of a ship. In addition to the year of construction and the material, the tower's distinctive shape is therefore also part of the architectural character of the Castello. The historic construction periods range from Castello D'Aquino, built in 1507, to the 18th-century Chiesa Madre.

Railway, pilgrimage route and landscape

The Avellino–Rocchetta Sant'Antonio railway line is now one of Italy's tourist railways. It is served by historic trains and runs through expansive green landscapes. The train journey and the landscape form a distinct subject area alongside the churches and the Castello.

The Santuario della Madonna del Pozzo is located on the summit of Serralonga Hill, approximately 3 km from the town of Rocchetta Sant'Antonio. On 15 August, the inhabitants of Rocchetta Sant'Antonio make a pilgrimage there and carry the wooden statue of the sanctuary into the town in a procession. Rocchetta Sant'Antonio also lies along the pilgrimage route La Via del Padre. Near Pescarella, water with a sweetish taste and beneficial effects rises to the surface. The religious and scenic points of interest thus extend from the hill and sanctuary to the procession, the pilgrimage route and the spring near Pescarella.

Other places: Giardinetto Vecchio, Rodi Garganico, San Domino, Sant'agata Di Puglia, Lucera, Motta Montecorvino, Borgo Celano and San Paolo Di Civitate.
