Trani combines impressive architectural history with a varied coastal landscape. Castello Svevo was built in 1233 at the behest of Frederick II. The Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino also tells of the town’s long history: construction began at the end of the 11th century, and it was clad in Trani’s slightly pinkish local marble. Its isolated position on a large square gives the sacred building a particularly striking appearance. In the historic center lies the Scolanova Synagogue, an example of Apulian Romanesque architecture. It is considered the most important surviving evidence of Trani’s former Jewish quarter. The Polo Museale Diocesano occupies four levels on Piazza Duomo. This complex includes the Diocesan Museum, the typewriter museum of the Fondazione S.E.C.A., and a cultural area. The Diocesan Museum opened in 1975 to house stone and sculptural materials from excavations and demolition work at Trani Cathedral and other churches in Trani.

The Monastero di Colonna is a monumental complex dating from the early 1100s. It was initially inhabited by Benedictines and subsequently, from 1427 to 1867, by Franciscans. Its changing use spans several centuries, adding another historical layer to its early construction date. The Santa Geffa Archaeological Park offers another way to explore the past: it is located 3 km from Trani, near Via delle Tufare, and preserves the remains of the underground complex of S. Geffa. The park’s workshop activities include planting and cooking.

The Vasca Boccadoro is located in the Boccadoro nature area. It is both a natural wetland and an interesting architectural feature.
