Casalbordino: Beach, Pilgrimage and History
Accommodation in Casalbordino
Casalbordino combines beach experiences on the Adriatic coast with pilgrimage sites, historic churches and paths for cyclists and pedestrians. This allows you to plan your stay according to different interests: the focus can be on the sanctuary in Miracoli, the historic centre, or the beaches and waterfront paths around the Lido.
Pilgrimage and Places of Interest in Miracoli
The origins of the Sanctuary of Madonna dei Miracoli are connected with the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Alessandro Muzio from Pollutri on 11 June 1576. The sanctuary is a pilgrimage destination. The basilica and the sanctuary are located in Miracoli, a district of Casalbordino. The Sanctuary of Madonna dei Miracoli was consecrated on 11 August 1962.
The monastery at the sanctuary includes the Benedictine Monastery Library. It offers consultation hours on weekdays; additional afternoon hours are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Anyone interested in religious history, sacred spaces and the development of a pilgrimage destination can include this area as a separate focus in their trip planning.
Churches and Historic Traces in the Centre
The historic centre of Casalbordino also offers specific points of interest for a cultural route. A tower that was part of the medieval town wall has been preserved there. The Church of San Salvatore from the 18th century is also located here. The Church of Santissimo Salvatore has a late-Baroque interior with stucco and gilding, as well as a longitudinal layout with three naves.
Palazzo Magnarapa comprises three existing building sections from the 16th and 17th centuries. Together with the churches and the preserved section of the town wall, they form a historic circuit in which different periods and architectural forms stand side by side. For a holiday apartment in Casalbordino, this cultural focus can be decisive if you want to combine sightseeing with days at the beach.
Beaches, Lido and Waterfront Paths
Casalbordino Beach is wide and long and consists mostly of sand. It can be reached via S.S. 16, the turn-off to Lido di Casalbordino and then Via Bachelet in a southerly direction. Santo Stefano Beach can be reached via State Road 16, the Lungomare of Casalbordino and Via Alessandrini. White pebbles and sand dunes along the Lungomare shape the landscape there.
A four-kilometre cycle and walking path was inaugurated along the Lungomare of Casalbordino. In addition, an unpaved path leads from Lido di Casalbordino along the former railway line to the rocky headland of Punta Aderci and the nature reserve of the same name. The Rete Ciclabile dei Trabocchi runs from Francavilla al Mare to Casalbordino Lido. A new section in Casalbordino also provides additional continuity for the Via Verde della Costa dei Trabocchi and, more generally, the Ciclovia Adriatica.
Which travel focus suits your accommodation?
If you mainly want to experience pilgrimage and culture, Miracoli and the historic centre are the main attractions. For days at the beach, walks along the Lungomare and cycling excursions, Lido di Casalbordino, Casalbordino Beach and Santo Stefano offer different points of orientation. An accommodation in Casalbordino can therefore be selected according to your preferred daily rhythm, without having to commit to just one type of holiday.
