Somoskőújfalu: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Somoskőújfalu is part of the Karancs-Medves Landscape Protection Area, which also includes the administrative area of the village. During Advent, a gingerbread village has been created here every year since 2019, which anyone can visit.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Somoskőújfalu wants to discover the village as a destination in its own right.

Nature

The protected area includes the 98.81-hectare “Karancsalja-Somoskőújfalu Ceberna Kercseg” area. The Karancs-Medves Landscape Protection Area provides a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife, including rare and protected species. The Salgó mountain, Kis-Salgó mountain, Karancs peak and Kercsek-tető mountain are located in the vicinity of Somoskőújfalu.

Trails and activities

The hiking trail marked with an “S” leads from the centre of Salgótarján through the Ceberna Valley to the Karancs Saddle, and from there descends eastwards towards Somoskőújfalu. Horse riding is available at the Kakuk Lovasudvar in Somoskőújfalu, where riding tours are also organised.

Culture

The gingerbread village is displayed in the window of the right wing of the Petőfi Sándor Művelődési Ház, in the club room. Since 1999, the Somoskői Váralja Egyesület and the Somosi Kultúráért Egyesület have jointly celebrated 15 February as “Hazatérés napja”.
