Fehérvárcsurgó: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Culture

Fehérvárcsurgó Castle was built according to plans by the architect Heinrich Koch. The Vienna-based architect Heinrich Koch was represented by Ybl Miklós, who was involved in the planning related to construction supervision as the architect of the Károlyi family.

Tours of Károlyi Castle take place daily and are possible exclusively with a guide; registration is required due to the limited number of places. Guided tours are available in English, French, German or Italian.

The Károlyi family exhibition presents the history of the family in the 19th and 20th centuries using archival photographs and film footage from the respective periods. In 2023, the Fehérvárcsurgó Arboretum and the park of Károlyi Castle became members of the European Route of Historic Gardens of the Council of Europe.

The Reformed Church of Fehérvárcsurgó was built in 1789. Its onion-shaped tower is considered a characteristic element of late Baroque church architecture in Transdanubia; the furnishings date from the late 18th century. The medieval origins of the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Fehérvárcsurgó have been documented; Catholics have used it again since 1748.

Nature

The Gaja Valley Landscape Centre has designated forest picnic areas, fire pits and easy-to-walk hiking trails. From the central facility of the Gaja Valley Landscape Centre, a developed but steep path leads to Vaskereszt. Vaskereszt stands at one of the most striking viewpoints of the Gaja Gorge and commemorates a count from the Károlyi family.

The Alba Regia Spring is a developed spring and picnic area with an amphitheatre-like design. Sobri Jóska Cave is an approximately 22-metre-long cave in the Gaja Gorge. The Gaja Gorge is a 4-kilometre-long gorge with steep walls.

The Károlyi lookout tower offers panoramic views of the forests of the eastern Bakony, the Gaja Gorge and the water reservoir. The park of Károlyi Castle has a virtual botanical tour presenting the park's old trees.

Sika deer are considered native in Hungary exclusively to Fehérvárcsurgó.

Events

The events programme of the Károlyi József Foundation features the 16th and 17th editions of the European String Quartet Festival “Quartettissimo”. The Károlyi József Foundation regularly organises international conferences, exhibitions and concerts. The Cultural Meeting Centre in Fehérvárcsurgó is open to visitors.

Károlyi Castle offers the programme “Fel a titkos lépcsőn!” as a separate guided tour of the library; the tour takes place monthly on a previously announced Saturday and requires registration due to the limited number of places.
