Kazincbarcika: Art, Tradition and Water
Accommodation in Kazincbarcika
In Kazincbarcika, public art, rural character and traditional crafts come together. The city can be explored from different perspectives: through sculptures at specific locations, historic architectural styles and collections with local connections. There are also opportunities for water-based activities and exercise, adding a different dimension.

Art in Specific Locations
Kazincbarcika has 34 public artworks made of bronze, cast aluminium, stone, fireclay, cast iron or treated wood. Three sculptures illustrate the range of locations and periods in which these works were created. “Színes unikornis,” created by Szőke Gábor Miklós in 2013, stands at the roundabout where Egressy út and Jószerencsét út meet. His 2014 sculpture “Kínai Sárkány” is located on Fő tér. The bust of Egressy Béni, created by Nagy István János in 1974, can be found at Fő tér 5. The dates thus range from the bust to the two more recent works.
Village Character and Craft Traditions
A different historical picture is conveyed by the Kazincbarcika-felsőer Reformed Church, built in the 15th century. In the rural-style district, veranda houses, draw wells and wheel wells, a barn, a stable, lilac bushes and small village streets evoke the peaceful world of the 19th century. Rows of old wine cellars can be found on the southern hills and in the northern areas of Kazincbarcika. The church, streetscape and cellars thus represent different aspects of the town’s character; the traditional atmosphere of the village quarter is distinct from that of individual public artworks.
Gömöri vert csipke is a craft tradition that has now become rare and fallen into obscurity. Its production has been taught and promoted in Kazincbarcika since 1993. Ways of sharing the tradition include exhibitions, lace-making demonstrations and lectures. This cultural theme encompasses not only the finished pieces but also the knowledge of how they are made.
Collections and Active Experiences
The Kazincbarcikai vasúttörténeti gyűjtemény preserves railway uniforms, armbands, rank insignia, caps and other uniform accessories. It also includes artefacts, station photographs and documents relating to the Kazincbarcika–Ormospuszta and Kazincbarcika–Rudabánya railway lines. The collection thus brings together personal railway equipment and memories of two locally named routes.
At the Kazincbarcikai Vízi Komplexum, sports pools and a wellness area are side by side. The facility includes a competition pool with a grandstand, two teaching pools of different sizes and an outdoor pool. The wellness area features Finnish and infrared saunas, a steam cabin, plunge pools, and whirlpool and seating pools. As facilities may change, it is advisable to check what is currently available before your visit. The Játékpark in Völgypark offers a different kind of physical activity: it is for young and old alike, promising an active, energetic and entertaining experience.
Find a Location That Suits Your Interests
When choosing a holiday rental, you can start by considering which themes you want to shape your stay: public art and local history, crafts and the railway collection, or water and exercise. The places mentioned have specific, varied locations—from Fő tér and Fő tér 5 to the roundabout, the village quarter and the named hilly areas. So compare the location of your accommodation with the places you actually want to visit.
