Particularly noteworthy is the complete contents of a shoemaker’s workshop from 1820, which has been preserved. The circular trail is 1 mile or 1.6 kilometres long. This makes it possible to explore the surroundings in a manageable format, while the different stops appeal to a range of interests.

Those planning a longer route can consider the Nidderdale Way. The circular route is 53 miles long and covers the entire Nidderdale National Landscape. Its course links riverside paths, country lanes, crossings of moorland and sections of road through villages. For travel planning, its length is therefore particularly significant: the Nidderdale Way represents a comprehensive walk through the landscape, while the Millennium Green Trail offers a much shorter circular route.

Another option is the Pateley Bridge & Glasshouses Loop. From Pateley Bridge, it follows the River Nidd downstream along the route of the former Nidd Valley Railway. The historic railway route is a defining feature of the route described. Depending on the type of outing you want, you can therefore choose between a short circular trail, a riverside loop and the long Nidderdale Way.

Culture and travel

The Pateley Playhouse adds a cultural highlight to Pateley Bridge. It stages immersive productions of classic works and its own original works in a theatre with 72 seats. The Nidderdale Show also takes place every September, with a history that can be traced back to 1319. These two offerings have different focuses: the Playhouse represents theatre in an intimate setting, while the show is an annual event with a long history.

The bus route 24 operated by Transdev provides a direct connection from Harrogate to Pateley Bridge. This can be relevant when planning your journey if you want to reach the town without travelling by car.
