Alyn Waters Country Park lies three miles north of Wrexham, between Gwersyllt, Bradley and Llay. Marked trails through woodland, grassland and riverside areas, recorded wildlife species and a range of exercise activities give trips around Bradley a tangible connection to nature. When choosing a holiday apartment in Bradley, you can consider what kind of outing you’d like to shape your stay: a circular walk, wildlife watching or an exercise session. The activities offer different focuses, giving you several options to consider as you plan.

Circular walk with two possible starting points

There are two possible starting points for the “Gwersyllt and the River Alyn circular walk”. You can start at Alyn Waters Country Park on Mold Road; the address is LL11 4AG, grid reference SJ 319, 546. Alternatively, there is a starting point at the station in the village of Gwersyllt, grid reference SJ 318, 533. This lets you choose where to begin based on your preferred starting location. If you plan to start at the station, check train timetables separately.

Trails, scenery and wildlife watching

At Alyn Waters Country Park, marked trails run through woodland, grassland and riverside areas. They extend across both the Gwersyllt and Llay sides of the park. The different landscapes offer varied impressions along the walk: woodland, open grassland and riverbanks each define different sections. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you can plan around which side of the park and which surroundings interest you most, rather than focusing your visit on just one destination.

Wildlife is also part of the park’s character. Species recorded there include kingfishers, otters and various bat species. Which animals you may see can vary depending on the season and actual sightings. The species list therefore does not guarantee that you will see any of these animals on a particular visit. Instead, it gives an impression of the diversity that characterises this natural area and makes wildlife watching a possible focus alongside walking the trails.

Exercise activities with different focuses

The Pedal Power Project is based in Alyn Waters Country Park and managed by Groundwork North Wales. A variety of bikes are used on a one-mile circuit. This makes the activity different from walking the marked trails: the focus here is on riding a set circuit. If you would like to book a place on the Pedal Power Project, you can do so by calling 01978 757524. Check the current booking and contact details before making plans, as participation requirements may change.

Another exercise option is the Trim Trail on the Gwersyllt side of the park. It has a range of simple exercise equipment. This option differs from the longer trails and circuit routes: the focus is on individual exercise stations. When choosing your activities, you can weigh these different forms of exercise against one another and shape your stay around your interests.
