It reaches Torpantau at the summit of its original route, 1,313 feet above sea level.

Nature and water

Pontsticill Reservoir was completed in 1927 and built to supply water to communities throughout South Wales. The Taff Trail runs directly in front of the dam at Pontsticill Reservoir. As part of the Reservoir Passport Scheme, canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are available there. The return journey of the Brecon Mountain Railway stops at Pontsticill station, where visitors can visit the Lakeside Cafe and walk along the reservoir.

The Taf Fechan Nature Reserve is a 2.5 km-long, wooded limestone gorge section through which the River Taf Fechan runs. The reserve lies next to the Taff Trail and includes a large part of the Cwm Taf Fechan Woodlands, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The circular route through the Taf Fechan gorge leads to the Blue Pool, a waterfall and a clear pool within the gorge.
