Aberaeron: Discover the Harbour, Coast and Trails

Aberaeron combines a sheltered harbour, Georgian-influenced architecture and a variety of waterside trails. The inner harbour is known as “Pwll Cam” and almost completely empties at low tide. Together with the outer harbour, which has a sailing tradition, this interplay of water, tides and harbour life shapes the character of the town.

Experience the Harbour, River and Coast

A largely accessible path runs along the waterfront between the harbour, the town car parks and the playing fields. Another gently curving path runs from the public gardens opposite Bellevue Gardens, along the river and harbour in front of Belle Vue Terrace.

One of the distinctive traditions is the annual Mackerel Funeral, which marks the end of the mackerel fishing season. Several clearly distinct options are available for walks and cycling trips. A 2.5-mile route from Aberaeron to Llanerchaeron follows a former railway line and can be used on foot or by bicycle. The Allt y Graig Woodland Trail connects to the walking and cycling path on Aberaeron’s former railway line, which leads to the Llanerchaeron Estate. In addition, a two-mile, traffic-free cycle path runs from Aberaeron along the banks of the River Aeron to Llanerchaeron.
