Bembridge can be explored in many different ways: through cultural and historical sites, a circular walking trail, distinctive beach experiences and the lively harbour in summer. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a trip that caters to different interests, you can choose your location based on the experiences you want to define your stay. Bembridge Harbour is particularly busy in summer: fishing boats arrive and depart, dinghies sail in the harbour, and yachts arrive from or set out for other harbours. For your journey, you can also take into account that the ferry connections in Ryde are the closest to Bembridge.

Cultural History and Places of Interest

Bembridge Lifeboat Station was established in 1867, making it one of the village's historical points of interest. Another prominent place to visit is Bembridge Windmill, which was built in the early 18th century. Visitors can climb the steep steps to the top and enjoy the view from there. The windmill is also the starting and finishing point of the Culver Trail.

At Bembridge Heritage Centre, models and technological history take centre stage. On display are scale models, including Bembridge railway station, which closed in 1953. The Centre also features a fully restored PLUTO pump, whose name stands for “Pipe Line Under the Ocean”. When planning a visit, it is important to note the opening hours: Bembridge Heritage Centre is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30 to 13:00.

Bembridge Fort can also be included in your exploration of the village. Access is via volunteer-led tours and special events. Those interested in history will therefore find different ways to visit: exhibitions, a historic building, technological relics and a site with a maritime connection.

Beach, Low Tide and the Solent

Bembridge Beach has a distinctive mix of materials: the beach consists of stones, pebbles and shells, while beneath the high-water line there is a sandy seabed. At low tide, a large sandbank extends into the Solent in front of Bembridge Beach. This tidal change makes the beach a place where the landscape looks different over the course of the day.

At the edge of the beach, Bembridge Ledge becomes visible at low tide. It can be slippery and is suitable for rock pooling. Take this condition into account when planning your day and combine your beach visit with the appropriate tide.

Culver Trail and Windmill

For a more active outing, the Culver Trail is a good option. The circular walking trail is 3.75 miles long, and around 1.5 to 2 hours are allowed for the route. Several information boards are positioned along the way.
