Battle Abbey was founded around 1070 by William the Conqueror as a Benedictine foundation and to commemorate his victory over the English in the Battle of 1066. Bateman's is a 17th-century house in the Sussex Weald and was the home of Rudyard Kipling. The estate comprises 300 acres of High Weald countryside with small fields, hedgerows, old trees, hidden ponds and impressive views across the Dudwell Valley.

The Rye Museum Association operates two accredited museums on East Street and at Ypres Tower. The two museums are located in medieval Rye in East Sussex, just a short walk from each other.
