Walking and cycling between the forest and the River Spey

For a longer walk or cycle ride, the Speyside Way is a good option. From Boat Of Garten, it runs southwards to Aviemore or north-eastwards to Nethy Bridge. Ospreys, small birds and red squirrels can also be observed there.

At Milton Loch, there is a walking trail through the forest. From the viewing hide, you can watch herons and mallards and, with a little luck, an otter as well. At a pond, you can also search for and observe small creatures. History at Station Square

The local history is also part of Boat Of Garten's character. The name, also known as Coit na Gartain, goes back to a ferry that had existed since at least 1662 and was recorded at the time as a gift from Bishop Hepburn to a Grant of Carron. Station Square reflects the development of the village after the arrival of the steam railway in 1868 through explanatory and cultural elements.

The square features a sculpture of an osprey commissioned by the Community Company. At Station Square, the sculpture Horse and Cart represents the industrial history. Those walking in the forests can also discover Neolithic cairns and burial sites. Boat Of Garten became the youngest destination on the Highland Railway Line in 1863; new houses for station employees were subsequently built.
