Culture and History

The Filature Arpin, founded in 1817, is open to visitors. Its 1.5-hour guided tours lead to the historic machines and the stages involved in producing Arpin wool and textiles. The tour also provides an insight into the techniques of carding, spinning and weaving Savoyard sheep’s wool on machines that are more than one hundred years old.

In the centre of Séez is the Espace Saint-Eloi, a former forge. Exhibitions on blacksmithing, Savoyard jewellery and Savoyard Baroque art are shown there. The Espace Saint-Eloi displays more than 200 pieces of jewellery from Savoy, including crosses, hearts and brooches.

The Church of Saint-Pierre was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century while preserving Romanesque elements such as the bell tower. Inside, it contains a gilded high altar carved by Étienne Fodéré around 1686, as well as a painting of the Assumption painted by Bastiani in 1683.

The restored Hospice du Petit Saint-Bernard now houses a tourist information office and an interactive exhibition on the history of the hospice and the pass.
