Culture and History
The present-day Church of Saint-Julien probably dates from the late 15th or early 16th century. The south chapel of the Church of Saint-Julien preserves two sculpted corbels bearing the coats of arms of Aymard de La Poype and Antoinette de Grolée, the lords of Saint-Jullin. In the Chapel of Saint-Julien, stencil motifs of ears of wheat are painted along the edge of the pointed arch between the nave and the choir.
The Chapel of Saint-Denis–Saint-Blaise preserves a semicircular apse and a façade window that may date from the Romanesque period. Its façade has a portal with a moulded cornice. The tympanum of the small façade window bears a sculpted rosette motif.
The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was rebuilt in 1892 to replace an older church that had become too small and dilapidated. It has six stained-glass windows created by Etienne Buche, a glass painter from Grenoble. During the work on the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste coordinated by the architect Puissant, a monumental clock, decorative paintings, and sculptures were added.
The Château de Saint-Jullin dates from the 13th century, was partially destroyed during the Revolution, and was rebuilt from 1836 onwards by the Comtesse de Chaponay; among other additions, a keep was added. The Château de Saint-Jullin is privately owned and is not open for visits.
