The medieval centre of Sauzet, the “old village”, was built on a raised, fortified limestone ridge and has two concentric ring walls. Sauzet itself was built on a limestone rock on the western edge of the Valdaine plain.

Almost all of the upper enclosure of Sauzet’s old village, also known as the inner or castle enclosure, has been preserved along its 300 m perimeter; it also features two square defensive towers. The lower enclosure, also known as the outer or urban enclosure, has been preserved along 80% of its 500 m length. It includes three of the original four gate towers and two horseshoe towers.
The Church of Saint-Lambert in Sauzet’s fortified village is a Romanesque former castle chapel. Since the 12th century, it has been served by Benedictine monks from Saint-Marcel-lès-Sauzet. From Easter until the end of September 2026, it is open to the public free of charge every day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The municipality of Sauzet, together with Montélimar Agglomération Tourisme, has developed a digital Baludik tour. The free app conveys the history of the town and municipality in a playful way in the form of a treasure hunt; the hunt developed for Sauzet highlights Marius Sestier as one of its best-known residents.
Villa Sestier, occasionally also called Château Sestier, is an exceptionally rare Art Nouveau building in the region and was added to the supplementary list of historic monuments in June 2012. Its gardens were expanded and redesigned into a 7-hectare park; Gabriel Luizet, a renowned landscape gardener, was commissioned to create the grounds. The villa offers private and group guided tours on request.
