Culture and History
The church of Saint-Martin-d’Août was built in 1893 by Abbé F. Rostaing and towers over the village. It is visible on arrival via the D321 from the direction of Châteauneuf-de-Galaure.
The Mairie-Ecole building reflects the traditional architecture of rural public buildings in the Drôme département.
A commemorative stele was inaugurated in the hamlet of La Baume on 30 June 2018. It honours Louis Aragon and Elsa Triolet as Resistance writers who found refuge in the Drôme during the Second World War. At the same time, it marks the place where, according to eyewitness accounts collected by local historians, the manuscripts of the novel Aurélien were hidden during operations by the Milice and the Gestapo.
A commemorative stele dedicated to the pilot Pierre Lucas (1917–1939) stands at the crash site. On 15 December 1939, a Bloch MB.210 bomber, number 183, belonging to the French Air Force’s 51st Bomber Squadron, crashed there in the municipality.
The Saint-Martin-d’Août war memorial lists the names, dates of death and places of death of 19 residents who fell for France in the First World War. It was rebuilt behind the choir of the village church after the former memorial in the municipal cemetery was destroyed by a storm.
Hiking and Cycling
The 12th edition of the Rando de Saint Martin d’Août on 4 October 2026 includes four hiking routes of 5, 9, 14.5 and 21 km.
The “Entre Valloire et Galaure” mountain biking route leads to Saint-Martin-d’Août.
