Luc-en-Diois: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The rockslide at Le Claps in 1444 created two lakes three kilometres south of Luc-en-Diois. The Le Claps trail follows the left bank of the Drôme to the classified site and on to the Saut de la Drôme, where there are small pools suitable for swimming.

The Le Pic de Luc hiking trail is 10.62 km long, takes around four hours, has an elevation gain of 590 m and is rated difficult. Its ascent reaches a summit overlooking the main plateau of the scree field at Le Claps. The La cabanette trail follows the St Jean stream and passes through pine forest and marl typical of the Diois region before reaching a hut above Luc-en-Diois and the Drôme Valley. The “Parapente avec Air Element” activity offers paragliding flights launching from Clamontard above Luc-en-Diois’s Claps.

Culture and History

At the beginning of the Roman period in Gaul, Lucus became Lucus Augusta Vocontiorum and the northern capital of the Voconces. The “Vierge à l'Enfant” dates from the 18th century; on 19 March 1976, it was registered as a protected object. The Roman column stands opposite the Place de la Fontaine in a niche in the wall of the former town hall.

The church and cross in Luc-en-Diois were built in 1845 in the Neoclassical style, replacing the former village church. The bell tower of the church and cross was added in 1879 and financed through a public collection. A cross erected in 1859 stands in the square named after it, near the church and cross; processions occasionally passed by there.

The Lavoir du Faubourg Saint Laurent initially had a wooden roof, which was restored around the 1930s. One of the pillars displays a reinforced-concrete construction technique that was considered highly innovative at the time.

Exhibitions and Crafts

The “Atelier de bourrellerie - Musée Vitrine” exhibition reconstructs a saddlery workshop that existed in Luc-en-Diois from 1860 to 1952 and displays historical tools, labels and registers. It can be visited free of charge on a permanent basis without a guide.

The “Fossils of Abbé Froment” exhibition presents part of a collection of more than 4,500 fossils and explains the geology of the Diois region. It is located in the town hall of Luc-en-Diois, 31 Grande Rue.

The pottery workshops with Sylvie Palma offer adults and children the opportunity to shape, decorate and freely experiment with clay.

Weekly Market

The weekly market in Luc-en-Diois offers cheese, cured meats, honey and freshly harvested vegetables from the vendors’ produce for visitors to sample.
