Culture and History
A special testimony to Saint-Laurent-sur-Saône’s history is the church’s choir organ. It was created by Claude Ignace Callinet in 1856 and has been classified as a protected object under the system of historic monuments since 27 March 1973.
The stone Pont de Saint-Laurent-sur-Saône also bears witness to the history of the town: it probably replaced a Gallo-Roman bridge in the 11th century. The Pont de Saint-Laurent-sur-Saône is listed as a monument historique; the listing was established by an order dated 6 July 1987. To this day, the bridge houses a statue of Saint Nicholas in its eleventh arch opening.
Contemporary art is represented by the Au Cube gallery at 124 Rue Jean Jaurès in Saint-Laurent-sur-Saône. Au Cube currently represents 17 established and emerging artists from France and abroad.
Water and Trails
Saint-Laurent-sur-Saône is known as “L’île de la Réjouissance”.
A recently constructed footbridge between Saint-Laurent-sur-Saône and Cormoranche-sur-Saône ensures the continuous route of the Voie Bleue®.
On the relevant section of the Voie Bleue®, 80% of the route has a very bike-friendly stabilised surface, enabling cyclists of all ability levels to enjoy an even and smooth ride.
Local Life
The Les Sauveteurs de Saint Laurent association was founded in 1880 and originally brought together nautical jousting and music.
In September 2024, the Société des Sauveteurs de St-Laurent held a full-day demonstration of nautical jousting on the Saône, on the Saint-Laurent side, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; around 40 jousters from Cluny, Digoin and Ampuis took part.
The Le Saint Laurent restaurant serves traditional cuisine from the Val de Saône.
