The Étang de Cessy is an artificial pond excavated in 1989, with a central island. Carp, tench, pike and perch are fished in the pond. The area also includes a fitness trail with three signposted routes: a blue loop around the pond, an orange Vita Parcours and a red route connecting the two paths. Each exercise station indicates the distance covered and remaining, as well as instructions for the movement to be performed. The leisure area at the Étang de Cessy is also accessible to people with reduced mobility.

The municipal forests of Cessy cover 200 hectares. They are spread across three separate sectors of the High Jura mountain range.

Cycling

The La Boucle du Nord Gessien road cycling circuit runs from Gex via Sergy, Saint-Genis-Pouilly, Versonnex and Cessy to Divonne-les-Bains. The route is not signposted locally. It follows roads open to motor traffic and is intended exclusively for experienced cyclists.

Culture and History

In 1091, the Sainte-Marie church in Cessy was transferred to Saint-Claude Abbey and placed under the patronage of Saint Denis. The present-day choir of Saint-Denis Church was the chapel of the former monastery.

The church in Cessy still contains a memorial plaque for the French soldiers of the First World War. It also houses a Pietà sculpture depicting a soldier held in her arms.

Events

The Fête de la Batteuse took place on 29 and 30 July 2023 and on 28 July 2024 at the Maison du Patrimoine in Cessy. The event held on 28 July 2024 was dedicated to discovering the farming world of times gone by.
