Massoins is a medieval village on a rocky spur above the Var Valley. One of the surviving historic features is the village church: it was first mentioned as early as 1376 and is dedicated to Saint Martin.

Hiking and nature

The hike to the Plateau du Lac starts in Massoins. The outward journey takes two hours, reaches an altitude of 1,204 metres and involves an ascent of 800 metres.

Easier hiking trails run radially around Massoins and connect the village with neighbouring villages. The GR 510 runs along the Ravin de l'Ubac, following the boundary between Massoins and Tournefort.

Massoins is one of the municipalities listed in the continental type 2 ZNIEFF “Forêt de Duina – Mont Fracha”.

Culture

The remains of La Casette contain a picnic area overlooking Massoins and the middle Var Valley. The ruins of the former Massoins castle have also been preserved at the same site; a chapel of the Black Penitents was formerly located there as well.

Events

The patronal festival of Massoins, Notre Dame du Rosaire, takes place every year on the third weekend in August. The programme includes a mass, serenades for local residents, dances and speeches.

The Festival d'Art Urbain de Massoins also takes place every year. It includes live painting, creative workshops and family activities. The festival also features a gourmet and arts and crafts market with numerous stalls.
