Cipières is situated on a viewpoint and offers sweeping views of the pre-Alpine Cheiron Massif and the Loup Valley below. The closely packed houses follow the layout of the former fortification walls along the narrow streets.

Those wishing to visit Saint-Mayeul, the Plateau de Calern and the Collet des Graus de Pons can include renting a holiday apartment in Cipières in their travel plans.

Culture

Cipières Castle was built as early as the 11th century. The present-day Church of Saint-Mayeul in Cipières was built between 1564 and 1597. It has a bell tower covered with glazed tiles; its wrought-iron campanile dates from the 18th century. The church is a recently restored Baroque church.

The Baroque Chapel of Saint-Claude in Cipières is impressive for its size and brightness. The Cabane de Pons in Cipières is also notable for its dimensions and state of preservation.

Cipières was known for a long time for wheat cultivation; numerous threshing floors and stone huts still bear witness to this today.

Landscape

The hike to the Plateau de Calern is a moderate, 3- to 5-hour hike that begins in Cipières. It passes through a karst landscape with limestone pavements and sinkholes, as well as by the Aven des Baudillouns, whose entrance shaft is more than 80 metres deep.

From the Cipières starting point, the GR4 leads directly to the Plateau de Calern towards Caussols. The GR4 crosses the Loup at the so-called Roman bridge, which was rebuilt in the 18th century.

The Cipières geocaching trail leads into sensitive habitats with numerous protected and endemic species.

Things to Do

The hike to the Collet des Graus de Pons is an easy, 2- to 3-hour hike that begins in Cipières. The GR51 long-distance trail runs through Cipières.

The Cipières geocaching trail is divided into two clearly distinct sections: the first leads into the mountain landscape and explores the culture of dry-stone construction, while the second focuses on the village.
