Culture and History

The Grotte de la Baume Bonne is classified as a historic monument. The Musée de Préhistoire des gorges du Verdon presents archaeological objects from around 60 sites in Haute-Provence and the Verdon. The architecture of the museum also makes its own statement: the building was designed by Norman Foster and integrated into the design at the entrance to Quinson.

In Quinson’s historic center, the Circuit des Fontaines is a cultural walking route that leads to eight 19th-century fountains.

Nature and Trails

The Basses Gorges du Verdon, accessible from the Base nautique de Quinson, are classified as a Natura 2000 site. From the Base nautique de Quinson, the gorges can be explored in the direction of Esparron by canoe or kayak. The hiking trail through the Basses Gorges du Verdon was renovated in 2014 to ensure safe access and preserve nature.

The trail to the Grotte de la Baume Bonne reaches the Calliandre viewpoint, offering views of the Quinson plain, the lake and the entrance to the Basses Gorges du Verdon. The discovery trail to the Grotte de la Baume Bonne is easy, 5.7 kilometers long and designed as a two-and-a-half-hour round trip. The Grotte de la Baume Bonne is closed to the public and can only be visited as part of a tour led by a museum mediator, with reservations required.

Experiences at the Museum

At the museum, a free, family-friendly orientation tour leads to the reconstructed prehistoric village of the Préhistosite. In the reconstructed prehistoric village, visitors can learn how to make fire without matches.

L'Aspre can be reached from the parking lot of the Musée de la Préhistoire via the Allée des Prés du Verdon and then along a road, after 1.3 kilometers, to the rocks equipped with protection bolts.
