Prads-Haute-Bléone: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature and Geology

The Ichtyosaure de La Mélaie is a fossilized marine reptile that lived around 107 million years ago during the age of the dinosaurs. Its skeleton has been preserved on site and is protected and managed by the Réserve naturelle nationale géologique.

Renting a holiday apartment is an option for a trip to Prads-Haute-Bléone.

Lac des Eaux Chaudes is a protected natural area enhanced by educational information panels about its fauna and flora. In the forest of Prads, Les Mélèzes de Chourges are exceptional larch trees whose trunks can reach a circumference of up to six metres.

Hiking and the Mountain Landscape

Bois de la Julie is a challenging six-hour mountain circular hike covering 13.2 kilometres. The route passes through impressive landscapes with steep sections and natural meadows, leading to abandoned hamlets. It is included in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence departmental hiking plan.

A 2- to 3-hour hike there and back from the hamlet of Chanolles leads to the skeleton of the Ichtyosaure de La Mélaie.

At Tête de l’Estrop, Prads-Haute-Bléone reaches an altitude of 2,961 metres. Refuge de l’Estrop is a mountain hut at the source of the Bléone at an altitude of 2,050 metres and can only be reached on foot. From there, you can climb to Tête de l’Estrop, which offers an exceptional panorama.

Routes Through the Landscape

The route from the car park at Lac des Eaux Chaudes initially follows the track towards the hamlet of La Combe, then climbs through the forest and crosses several avalanche corridors.

The Via Ferrata de la Falaise de Meichira takes around three hours; there is an exit option halfway along the route.
