Mezel: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire was formerly the parish church of Mézel and already existed before 1600. The Église Saint-Laurent was rebuilt in 1734; it houses a statue of Saint Joseph dating from the last quarter of the 17th century.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Liesse also combines several historical layers: its votive function was established in the 19th century in connection with the rescue of a person swept away by flooding of the Asse. At the same time, it is connected with an original structure from the 11th century that belonged to Montmajour Abbey at the time; apparently, nothing remains of this original structure. The covered washhouse at Fonténil was built after 1822. The Fontaine du Mitan was indispensable to family life when water was not yet available at sinks.

Nature

A simple, one-hour circular route leads from Mézel to the Chapelle Notre-Dame, covering 3.3 kilometres with 170 metres of ascent. A family-friendly path leads from Mézel Town Hall up to the Chapelle Notre-Dame, situated on a hill. On the descent, the hike follows the Chemin de Bimont through olive groves and heathland.

Another family-friendly out-and-back hike, Rive de l’Asse depuis Mézel, follows the Asse for 10 kilometres. It begins in Mézel and leads downhill along a small road towards Bellegarde, passing Clos d’Auran and Veissel.

Local products

Bleu d’Argens in Mézel offers educational and themed tours focusing on the cultivation and distillation of lavender. Bleu d’Argens also offers olive oil produced on its own farm, as well as honey from neighbouring producers.
