Culture and History

The Château de Montmoreau combines Gothic and Renaissance elements and has remained virtually unchanged since it was built. The present Château was built on the same site in the mid-15th century. It stands on a natural hill and dominates the Tude Valley.

The main construction phase of the Église Saint-Denis dates from the 12th century. Its Romanesque architecture includes a polylobed portal, a nave covered by a barrel vault, a dome over the crossing supported by pendentives, and a large semicircular apse. The church is free and open to the public every day year-round from 08:00 to 20:00.

Situated on a hill, the Église Saint-Amand offers a view of the centre of Montmoreau.
