Villemorin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Villemorin is located in the northwest of the Vals de Saintonge and is considered one of the oldest municipalities in the Vals de Saintonge.

Culture and History

The Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption in Villemorin was built in 1880 and restored in 2007. It has a rounded east end and an apse with a half-dome termination. Its bell comes from the Couvent de l’Ouche des Carmes d’Aulnay.

Villemorin is described as a “village réticulaire” in the architectural atlas of the Conseil d’Architecture d’Urbanisme et d’Environnement de Charente-Maritime (CAUE 17).

The earliest traces of human activity in Villemorin may date back to the 8th century. Polished stone tools have been found in Villemorin. Underground passages run through the village. A presumably Protestant temple in Villemorin later served as a church.

The historic game “Rampeau” in Rue du Rampeau in Villemorin was a type of “jeu de palets” and continued to exist until the beginning of the 20th century.

Landscape and Hiking

The Saudrenne crosses Villemorin from east to west and is a tributary of the Boutonne. A hike through Villemorin follows the Saudrenne stream.

The Randonneurs Vals de Saintonge regularly offer hikes during which visitors can discover the region’s natural and agricultural heritage.

A 10 km hike leads from the centre of Villemorin through the surrounding area and back to Villemorin. The hiking route runs above La Garenne, reaches Chiron Hill and offers a view towards the Signal de Chantemerlière.
