Nieul-Sur-Mer: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Sentier des arts is an artistic trail that pays tribute to artists from Nieul-sur-Mer. Thirteen initial paintings by Gaston Balande (1880–1971) were installed in 2024. Works by Gabriel Charlopeau (1889–1967), Roger Sarraud (1883–1945), Christian Couillaud (1904–1964), and Jean Chobelet (1925–1997) were added later.

Culture and History

The Port du Plomb reflects an important part of the town's history: during the Middle Ages, the port was significant for the trade in salt and wine. In 1627, royal troops embarked there for the great siege of La Rochelle. At the same time, the Port du Plomb is a popular starting point for walks along the sea on developed paths.

The oldest parts of the Église Saint-Philbert date from the 14th and 15th centuries. Inside, there are painted wood panellings, platforms with Art Deco mosaics, and stained-glass windows. The bell tower has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 1925. The town's cultural character is also shaped by the Fête des Arts, which takes place every year on the second weekend of September.

Coast and Nature

A developed coastal path along the cliff in Nieul-sur-Mer offers walkers views of the sea and the Aiguillon Bay. The marshes of Nieul-sur-Mer are home to distinctive flora and fauna, including herons, grey herons, and gulls.

At low tide, the rocky foreshore of Nieul-sur-Mer makes it possible to collect prawns, periwinkles, oysters, crabs, and clams. The Parc municipal Gabriel Chobelet is home to a very old Japanese pagoda tree, which is classified as a remarkable tree. Its trunk circumference is 3.92 metres.

In Lauzières, oyster huts and salt marshes converted into oyster beds are visible elements of the maritime heritage.
