Le Gua covers 3,609 hectares and lies on the banks of the Seudre and the Pelard Canal. Approximately half of the area consists of marshland, while the other half is used for agriculture.

Nature
The Marais de la Seudre also extends into Le Gua and is part of the Natura 2000 network. Around Marennes, Saint-Just-Luzac, Nieulle-sur-Seudre and Le Gua, the marshland covers more than 10,000 hectares. Several hiking trails run through the marshes.
Culture
The bell tower of the Église Saint-Laurent is the surviving remnant of a large Romanesque church that was destroyed during the Wars of Religion. The tower was later converted into a defensive tower. The nave also contains an ex-voto in the form of a model three-masted square-rigged sailing ship.
The Church of Saint-Pierre Es Liens in the village of Dercie dates from the 12th and 18th centuries and is located in the village centre. In Saint-Martin, the birthplace of Rear Admiral J. F. Renaudin is located in a house on the canal; its 18th-century entrance door has been preserved there.
The Salochen in Saint-Martin and Souhe are also among the historical features. These small, cone-shaped stone shelters date from the late 16th century and cannot be visited. The chapel, dated 1866, of the former convent for women founded in 1848 now houses the municipal media library.
Local Life
The market on Place du Logis in the centre of Le Gua takes place on Thursdays and includes a fishmonger. On Sundays, there is a fruit and vegetable vendor, oysters, tea, a food truck and saucissons.

Le Gua has a local walking route called “Circuit court”.
