In Port-le-Grand, the Chemin du chalet de Blanquetaque runs through the marshland of the lower Somme to an architecturally unusual chalet. The Basse vallée de la Somme area covers 1,426 ha and includes six municipalities, including Port-Le-Grand. The Basse vallée de la Somme is of great ecological importance for birdlife, habitats and flora.

La Trie Enchantée is a route through the Trie Valley in the Baie de Somme Picardie Maritime Regional Nature Park. At the same time, La Trie Enchantée is a designated walking trail for Port-le-Grand. The Plage de Fort-Mahon beach is located in the wider regional surroundings of Port-le-Grand.

History and Culture

Port-le-Grand is considered the birthplace of Saint Honoré, who became Bishop of Amiens in 554 or 566. In 1846, the foundations of 21 adjacent houses were discovered while laying out a lawn in front of the Château de Bonance.

The foundations of a Gallo-Roman temple were discovered in the forest of the Château de Bonance. A Benedictine convent named after Sainte Austreberthe is said to have stood on them during the Merovingian period; it was destroyed by the Normans in the 9th century. The site of the Château de Bonance was continuously inhabited from the Gallic period through the Middle Ages.

The Chalet de Blanquetaque was built for the Count d’Hardivilliers at the beginning of the 20th century and specially designed for snipe hunting.

The Abbaye de Notre Dame de Willencourt monastery is located in the immediate vicinity of Port-le-Grand. The historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame de Forest-Montiers and the Abbaye de Saint-Riquier monastery are also located nearby. The historic site of Abbaye du Lieu-Dieu is located in the wider regional surroundings.
