The Étang Saint-Ladre nature reserve in Boves covers 13.3699 hectares. In 1979, Étang Saint-Ladre was designated the first national nature reserve in Picardy. The area comprises characteristic habitats of alkaline fens with typical flora and fauna. Boves is characterised by a wetland landscape with reed beds, ponds, wet areas, pastures and insect-rich wooded areas.

History

Hiking trails in Boves lead to the ruins of the medieval castle, from where the entire valley can be seen. The Boves castle motte was built at the beginning of the 10th century. The Château de Boves is a motte-and-bailey castle complex containing ruins from the 15th century.

The lower castle of the Château de Boves included a fortified settlement with a parish church supervised by Saint-Fuscien Abbey, as well as a Cluniac monastic complex.

Culture

The parish church of Notre-Dame de Boves is designed in the neoclassical style. The church at the foot of Boves Castle is associated with the legend of Saint Ulphe.
