Nature

Trails

The “From the Beach to Cap d’Ailly” route runs through the Bois de l’Ailly, one of the area’s three Sensitive Natural Areas. Its coastal section follows the GR21 for around 1.5 kilometres. Along the route through Cap d’Ailly, sections pass numerous temporary ponds and forests of oak, chestnut, holly, beech, aspen and pine.

Culture and History

Today’s Phare d’Ailly is a square tower made of Mignac stone and granite that was commissioned in 1958. In November 2010, the Phare d’Ailly was listed as a Historic Monument. The lighthouse is generally not open to visitors; however, the municipality of Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer occasionally organises guided tours, especially on Heritage Days.

A Second World War blockhouse collapsed on Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer beach in 1993 and is still there.
