Saint-Saëns: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Saëns brings together historic buildings, woodland landscapes and local reminders of its agricultural heritage. The Church of Saint-Saëns was built in the Neo-Romanesque style in the final years of the 19th century and preserves stained-glass windows from the 14th and 16th centuries that are classified as historic monuments. For some travellers, renting a holiday apartment in Saint-Saëns is part of their travel plans.

Culture and History

The Fontaine Dillard was built on Place Maintenon in 1900. Traces of the leather industry that shaped Saint-Saëns’s rise in the 19th century have been preserved on Rue des Tanneurs, including recently uncovered tanning pits. The Puits Merveilleux is associated with a local legend.

On the banks of the Varenne stands an 18th-century cider press. It is made of solid oak components and represents Saint-Saëns’s local apple production. The Chou de Saint-Saëns is also part of the local heritage: today, it is regarded as a symbol of local heritage and the protection of biodiversity.

Nature and Trails

The Forêt d’Eawy lies on the outskirts of Saint-Saëns and covers 7,200 hectares. It occupies the slopes and plateau between the valleys of the Varenne and the Béthune. The Allée des Limousins is a 14-kilometre-long, straight forest avenue that is open to the public.

There is a signposted trail for the Chemin des Ecoliers. The “Le Petit Poucet” guide is available from the Saint-Saëns tourist information office. Along the Varenne, anglers can particularly enjoy trout fishing.

Golf

Golf de Saint-Saëns is located in the centre of the Forêt d’Eawy, at the intersection of the A28 and A29 motorways. The Saint-Saëns golf course is a par-71 course measuring 6,009 metres.
