Lillebonne: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Roman Theatre of Lillebonne is approximately 108 metres long and 94 metres wide and could accommodate 10,000 spectators. It is considered the largest and best-preserved building for performances north of the Loire.

Culture

The Juliobona Museum presents almost 300 exhibits from Lillebonne’s local Gallo-Roman heritage. Its collections convey what is known about the ancient city and what still needs to be understood; the archaeological museum also displays numerous finds from successive excavations. A permanently available tactile digital module allows visitors to view the Apollo of Lillebonne from every angle.

The Juliobona Museum is located at Place Félix Faure in Lillebonne (76170), opposite the Roman Theatre. It is currently temporarily closed due to construction work. The Roman Theatre can be visited with a pushchair; a ramp leads to the seating tiers and a lift to the arena. Admission to the “À la table des Romains” exhibition is included in the theatre ticket and does not require a reservation. The remains of Lillebonne’s Roman Theatre are fully visible from the square.

History

Philip II Augustus had the keep in Lillebonne built; it is still visible today. The ancient port of Juliobona provided access to the Mediterranean and to the province of Britannia, present-day Great Britain.

Events and Tours

The programme of events at the Juliobona Museum includes lectures, combined guided tours of the Roman Theatre and the town, themed heritage tours, and performances. Les Juliobonales take place every two years in June and last three days; they include performances, historical re-enactments, and fun activities.

The Lillebonne Heritage Trail is a walking tour and includes, among other things, a visit to a Gallo-Roman well.

Nature

The Parc des Aulnes covers 15 hectares and is used by walkers and runners. The park offers visitors a place for family walks and relaxation. It also has four freely accessible fitness machines for people aged 14 and over.

The Jardin Jean Rostand covers 7,519 square metres of flowering gardens and offers games for children during family visits. It dates from the late 12th century and preserves medieval walls. Several signposted hiking and mountain-bike trails start in Lillebonne or run near the town.
