Mantilly: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Mantilly is considered the “capital of Poiré” because of its importance in the production of pears and Poiré. Those choosing Mantilly for their own stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture and Enjoyment

The Fête du Poiré has been held every two years in July in Mantilly since 1978, combining regional products with music. The 2026 edition included wooden games and an inflatable structure for children. During the end-of-year holidays, Mantilly is also an illuminated village along the route of the “Villes et Villages Illuminés du Bocage Ornais”.

Domaine Fourmond Lemorton produces Poiré Domfront AOP, farm cider, Pommeau de Normandie AOC, Poir d'or, Calvados Domfrontais AOC, and apple and pear juice using organic cider production methods. Calvados Préaux produces Calvados from cider apples and cider pears.

Landscape

The Route du Poiré is signposted year-round and is an approximately 80-kilometre circular route that includes Mantilly. The landscape around Mantilly in the Domfrontais is characterised by standard apple and pear orchards and a bocage landscape shaped by living hedgerows, which is connected to the Poiré tradition.

Mantilly is home to a conservation garden for fruit varieties. The Les Grimaux family farm has been operated since 1939, covers 140 hectares, and has 1,000 pear trees as well as 600 standard apple trees. The fruit harvested at Les Grimaux is processed into juice, Poiré, cider, aperitifs, and Calvados Domfrontais. The orchard of Calvados Didier Lemorton covers approximately 100 hectares and contains standard apple and pear trees.
