Culture and history
The Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Church in Le Theil is listed as a French historic monument. The Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Church is considered Le Theil’s oldest building and dates back to the 12th century. It was badly damaged by the English in 1449, partially rebuilt from the 15th century onwards and remodelled in the 19th century. It has a square bell tower with Gothic windows and a slender spire.
The remains of the Abadie paper mill are part of the history of Le Theil-sur-Huisne and are an example of typical industrial-era architecture.
Trails and landscape
The short route from Le Theil-sur-Huisne to Saint-Germain-de-la-Coudre connects the Huisne Valley with the southern part of the former Bellême area.
On the La vallée de l’Huisne hiking trail, the former Abadie paper mill on the banks of the Huisne is presented as a symbol of Le Theil’s paper industry; the trail follows the Chemin noir, a former railway line that connected the paper mills of Le Theil and Mâle.
