Circular routes
The “Le Mont de Besneville” circular route leads along small roads to Mont de Besneville and offers impressive 360-degree views of the bocage landscape of Cotentin and the Channel Islands. It is a green walking route accessible to everyone, with predominantly moderate inclines. The exception is the climb to Mont de Besneville, which reaches just over 100 m in altitude.
The summit of Mont de Besneville is easily accessible on foot. From there, the panorama stretches across the bocage landscape and the beaches of Cotentin; in clear weather, the Channel Islands can also be seen on the horizon.
Along the way
The “Le Mont de Besneville” circular route is also signposted for gravel rides: it can be identified by VTT markings, a black gravel sticker and route number 41. The second former mill on Mont de Besneville is also equipped with an information board.
Culture and history
Three mills on Mont de Besneville are considered former mills; the first was converted into a chapel after the Second World War. In Besneville, the Église Saint-Florent has a distinctive nave with two rows of very slender columns. Through the openings of the side aisles, they provide abundant light to the central nave. The church has been listed as a historic monument since 6 September 1993.
The local history also includes Jeanne Barbe Collas du Genestel (1684–1761), Lady of Annoville. She founded the Chapelle de la Géranderie, donated 4,000 livres for its construction on her land and endowed it with an annual income of 100 livres. The chapel was built in 1744, restored around 20 years ago and can be visited especially on Heritage Open Days.
