Piseux: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

History and Architectural Heritage

The Charnelles plain was the site of the Battle of Verneuil on 17 August 1424 during the Hundred Years’ War. The Mariette de Charnelles in Piseux commemorates the Battle of Verneuil-sur-Avre, which was lost during the Hundred Years’ War.

The church of Piseux was transferred to the Abbey of Jumièges at the beginning of the 13th century. The Château de Charnelles was created in the 19th century on the site of the former village of Charnelles. The former church of Charnelles is now located in the grounds of the Château de Charnelles estate; the chapel of the Château de Charnelles is the former parish church of Charnelles. The Château de Charnelles also includes an enlarged former presbytery. A plaque affixed to the Château de Charnelles commemorates the Battle of Verneuil.

The Maison de Frileuse belonged to the Bissieu family from Verneuil for many years. La Grande Maison de Longuelune was the seat of a fief that extended across Longuelune, Grosbois and Piseux. The manor house of La Grande Maison de Longuelune that has survived to the present day is a Renaissance building made of brick and roof tiles, reportedly built by Robert de Varennes around 1550–1555.

The manor house of Grosbois belonged to the Aubéry du Boulley family from Verneuil in the 18th and 19th centuries. The musician Louis Prudent Aubéry du Boulley lived in the manor house of Grosbois for periods of time. Louise Colet (1810–1876) also frequently stayed in Piseux; her daughter owned a country house there.

Events

The programme for the Étoiles Symphoniques festival included a concert at the Église Saint-Denis in Piseux on 10 August 2026 at 7:00 p.m. Every year, the Étoiles Symphoniques festival brings together more than 200 artists aged between 6 and 24.

From Verneuil-sur-Avre, Piseux can be reached via the RD 51 towards Damville after approximately 4 kilometres.
